The weather cleared up this morning and it was time for Stan to do something he has wanted to do for some time. Ride his bike along the Hudson River down past Battery Park and across the Brooklyn Bridge.
Going downtown you pass by the Freedom Tower, World Trade Center park, Wall Street area, all across from Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty.
Crossing the Bridge- the right are the lanes- one pedestrian and one for bikes. Below are the cars and trucks.
As you can see, all of the bikers and pedestrians are going into the city. But if there were people coming out of the city, the pedestrians and bikers would have to share their lanes with oncoming traffic. You learn to share and be aware.
There were workers up doing something that only added to the activity on the Bridge.
Underneath the Bridge and appreciating all that went into building this in 1880's. It is one of the oldest bridges in the U.S. It connects the boroughs of Manhattan and Brooklyn. It has a span of 1,595 feet and was the first steel-wire suspension bridge constructed.
On the way back they were shooting a movie. This was a scene where the people were boarding one of the old ships in the harbor. There were well over 100 actors and then the countless movie people and catering trucks.
I didn't get the name of the movie but its supposed to be out next year.
Back home after a great adventure. The right lane is for pedestrians- going both directions. The left land is for cyclists- going in both directions. It can get crowded and you do need to pay attention and everyone get along. Stan said it was truly a wonderful way to see New York City.
We love this city and serving in the Temple. Every day is another blessing in our lives. We see miracles and tender mercies all around.
