Before we headed to Queens for the 12noon broadcast, Stan decided to ride his bike through Central Park. Since we live less than a block away, it is quick and easy to get there.
Still being new to New York, he didn't realize that they have a race there almost every week-end. There were thousand of runners...
...and media people everywhere.
Every lane was taken by someone heading in one direction or the other.
He learned that if you look and act like you know what you are doing, you can get away with about anything.
For those not in the race, they had carriage rides for you.
It was a beautiful morning and hardly a breeze. We love New York City.
They had these refreshment stands set up along the course. This poor fellow was one of the few that had to hate this time of day.
The wind picked up just enough to make his job even harder...
There was an accident or two along the way, also.
Stan tried to tell me this was the Yankees out practicing, but I'm not sure I believe him.
He made it back and had a great time. We got ready and headed out to Queens for the General Conference broadcast in our Jamaica 1st Ward building.
With a minute to go the missionaries were there and a few members but many more came as the Conference began.
Between the Sessions of Conference a baptism was held for one of the children in our ward. They all rallied around, and it was a special occasion. Just like in Poland, there was a luncheon between the sessions; and it was great.
Over the weekends many of the subway lines are closed for construction and repair. That is one of the challenges we have in going all the way out to Queens for Church. One of the lines is always under repair. Such was the case today, and it was a long trip back home. But a wonderful Conference and day!
I stayed home tonight and had many of the other Sisters over to our apartment for a fun get together while the men attended the Priesthood Broadcast next door in the Manhattan 1st Ward building.
We also had a special surprise tonight-
One of our great missionaries who served with us in Poland, Alan Johnson, was here in NYC at a United Nations model conference and came to view General Conference at the Manhattan 1st Ward. We all got together for a few minutes afterwards in our apartment. We love our missionaries! It was so good to see this great man....and guess who got to take a 'goody-bag' filled with leftover Refreshments back to his hotel room? Just like old times!
We love New York City and love serving in the Temple.
