The Flat Iron Building

My favorite New York building of all time is the Flat Iron Building (nickname: because it looks like an old fashioned 'flat iron')...original name, The Fuller Building.
This famous building has been widely photographed and used in many movies like Spiderman. It was the 'Daily Bugle'.
Many consider it the first skyscraper (375 feet high) in New York. It was one of the first to use a steel frame, the classic skyscraper structure.
Its unusual triangular shape was a solution to a space problem. The building rests on the bow-tie intersections where Broadway and Fifth Avenue cross. The apex of the building is only 6 feet across at its narrowest point.

When it was first erected in 1902, crowds used to gather across the street to wait for it to topple down. Today, it is a New York icon but dwarfed by all the buildings that have been build around it.
It is one of the most beloved buildings in the city, and has been compared to a might ship sailing up Fifth Avenue. It is definitely my favorite building in all of New York City.
